to wii or not to wii

Last Tuesday was my birthday, J did great - he left a present (a picture frame) and card on the chair I nurse Gerald in (so I wouldn't miss it). Then he took me out to dinner and asked me what I wanted for my birthday, I really had no clue. So we brainstormed all week and we've kind of decided on a Wii; but I'm really torn.

I've played a few times, and it is really fun, but I really didn't want to have a game system in the house while our kids are young. I really want "outside" kids. We're lucky because most of the kids on our street would rather play outside than do most anything else. I just figure it will be easier to encourage them to play outside if there isn't anything more enticing inside. But I can also see where it would be really fun to play the Wii as a family, especially during the terribly cold and yucky winter months.

The other item I would really like is a Le Cruset dutch oven from Williams-Sonoma. But I'm not exactly cooing up a storm these days, and I could probably save my pennies and buy one for myself without too much effort. Blahhh!!!! I just hate making decisions.

i love my wii. I have wii fit, mario kart, guitar hero. All sorts of fun. Alex doesn't play. We save it until he's sleeping. I figure in a couple of years it'll be awesome to have in the winter. Alex is so restless and it'll be fun for the family.

It'll also be great to take away from him when he's bad. LOL. instant grounding tool. :)

if you need any game reviews, let me know.

And Happy Birthday!

as the wife of a video game nerd, I vote no on the wii. It sounds fun at first, but I think any gaming system would be a bad choice, it just gives everyone another excuse to not do things. I'm about ready to sell J's xbox on ebay.....

Happy Birthday. I vote No because they are addictive. Get some fun outdoor games instead.

I heart Le Cruset. What I would do to have the whole set! My grandma does and I'm super jealous. I never thought I would want such a thing, but I love to cook. I would go for the Le Cruset since I'm not much of a gamer. I don't even get into wii. However, we never had a system growing up. Happy Belated B-day Alanna!!

I have one LeCreuset piece and I heart it. I have the 3.5 qt French oven (not sure how it's different than dutch??). BB&B carries them, and then you can use a 20% off coupon, so they're probably cheaper than W&S.

I don't have a wii, so I can't comment on that. I can't remember the last time I played a video game in general, though. I invested in netflix instead, for the cold winter months. A movie limits you to 2 hours of veg time, then you can play board games or something brain stimulating....

We have a Wii and we have a trampoline... They are both great to get us up and we can do them with the whole family!! I don't have a vote for you, but if you make other things a priority the Wii becomes a rainy or after dinner activity. I'd have to say that we don't regret any of the electronics or activity purchases we have made. We also have an XBOX 360 and are building and painting a greenhouse with everyone involved.
If I could give you any advice, it's to make the moments count and the Wii, XBOX, trampoline will be fun side activities. And it's wonderful to play bowling with a 4 year old which teaches her to finish a game, take turns, and how to be encouraging... it's the same with our others, but I think Emma is getting the most out of it right now. I think we log 4-7 hours a week.
