should i?

For the past few years I've been contemplating writing Mommo's (Jocko's maternal Grandmother) stories out and giving them to the family as Christmas gifts. I get butterflies thinking about it; her life story was so interesting, and I don't think that most of the family appreciates it, but I would love to get it out of my head and set it free.

How would you feel receiving a book of family stories from someone who married into the family? I don't want to over step my boundaries - but I don't think anyone else is interested in taking on this project. What would you do?

I think that you should do it. My grandmother complied a whole book, showing how my grandparents are third couins (making my mom inbred), and how they came from France and England and I think that it is wonderful to read. For the family members she knew she talked about what their personality was like. Anyone can research the family history, but to copy down to paper what a person was really like takes talent. You can do it. And if they don't appreciate the gift... well you can tell them where to shove it. ;)

I would love it! You're part of the family now, and maybe being new gives you the perspective to do it objectively while lovingly, and that sounds just about perfect. :0)

I think it is a wonderful idea. You can work with Mommo to make sure her stories are written down accurately. Also, you are a great writer.

it's an awesome idea.
a guy i work with is currently voice recording stories so that he can capture the way they told it themselves, which i think is cool too. i would really love to have known what my great grandparents sounded like. I'm thinking about getting some of my grandpa's stories on tape too. no one tells a story like my grandpa. :)

I would love if someone in my family got me a book like that for christmas. good luck and let us know how it turns out!

Mommo's already gone - but she told me so many stories - i just loved listening to them! I think jocko would like for me to do this, I know Gramma (his paternal grandmother) thinks I should do it. As for the in-laws, I don't care what they think.

I think it would be great, if not for the whole family, then maybe just for yours. I love listening to family stories and the crazy crap they did before I was born! Good luck.
